- Overview
-
This advanced welding course includes the theoretical and practical components to meet the skills and knowledge required to undertake advanced welding using gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW or TIG), gas metal arc welding (GMAW or MIG), manual metal arc welding (MMAW or stick) and flux core arc welding (FCAW or dual shield).
Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:
- Safe welding practices
- Selecting welding equipment and consumables
- Interpreting information on specifications and engineering drawings
- Welding processes such as:
- Gas tungsten arc welding
- Gas metal arc welding
- Manual metal arc welding
- Flux core arc welding
- Intermediate welds in horizontal, vertical, up and overhead position
- Identifying and rectifying weld defects
- Building code requirements and structural purposes
- Relevant standards such as AS 1554 General Purpose
Training and assessment are conducted at Site Skills Training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.
Please be advised that this unit of competency within this package were superseded in June 2019. Site Skills Training will continue to train and assess the superseded unit of competency until the transition end date of 31 December 2022.
