This confined space rescue course includes the theoretical and practical components to meet the skills and knowledge required to safely and competently undertake a confined space rescue and provide emergency care.
Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:
- Assessing and managing confined space rescue
- Extricating casualties
- Gaining entry to confined space
- Using rescue equipment
- Implementing emergency care procedures
- Completing documentation
Training and assessment is conducted at Site Skills Training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.

This course is suitable for those who are required to undertake confined space rescue situations such as emergency services, volunteer organisations and/or organisations where confined space work is performed, and public safety personnel who are required to provide initial lifesaving emergency care. This course is not designed for personnel whose primary response role is one of emergency care, first aid, or pre-hospital care.
Individuals within the fire sector must be able to provide a Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency as a pre-requisite for undertaking this course:
PUAFIR306 | Identify, detect and monitor hazardous materials at an incident |
PUASAR022 | Participate in a rescue operation |
A basic to moderate English language, literacy and numeracy skill level is required.
All participants are required to wear the following minimum PPE to enter our facilities:
- Fully enclosed shoes (steel-capped boots preferred)
- Long-sleeve shirt with high visibility
- Long work pants
Additional PPE may be required depending on the course requirements.
Upon successful completion of this course, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency will be issued:
