- Overview

This confined space and work safely at heights course includes the theoretical and practical components to meet the skills and knowledge required to work at heights and in confined spaces safely and competently in operational roles, primarily in the resources and infrastructure industries.
Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:
- Assessing hazards and risks
- Selecting, wearing and caring for personal protective equipment
- Safety systems including fall protection
- Legislation, policies and procedures
- Performing work at heights
- Safe shifting and handling of tools and materials
- Coordinating and communicating with others
- Applicable legislations and confined space procedures
- Definitions and types of confined spaces
- Hazard identification and risk management procedures
- Hazardous atmospheres including gas monitoring techniques
- Isolation, purging, ventilation, permits and authority
- Roles and responsibilities of team including standby
- Rescue equipment and procedures
As this course covers two (2) units of competency, please note that classes may not run consecutively.
Training and assessment is conducted at Site Skills Training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.

This course is suitable for those who are on work sites where they are required to perform work at heights and in confined spaces, particularly in the resources and infrastructure industries.
A basic to moderate English language, literacy and numeracy skill level is required.
All participants are required to wear the following minimum PPE to enter our facilities:
- Fully enclosed shoes (steel-capped boots preferred)
- Long-sleeve shirt with high visibility
- Long work pants
Additional PPE may be required depending on the course requirements.
Upon successful completion of this course, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency will be issued:
