- Overview

This manual handling course includes the theoretical and practical components to reduce sprains and strains due to manual tasks such as lifting and moving materials manually.
Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:
- Manual handling techniques
- Hazards of incorrect procedures
- Standards for manual handling
- Safe work practices and procedures
Training and assessment is conducted at Site Skills Training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.
Please be advised that this unit of competency was superseded by MEM11011 Undertake manual handling in June 2019. Site Skills Training will continue to train and assess the superseded unit of competency until the transition end date.

This course is suitable for those who are lifting and moving materials manually or using basic manual handling equipment, primarily those in the mining, construction, oil and gas industries. It is not suitable for those in community services such as nursing or aged care.
A basic to moderate English language, literacy and numeracy skill level is required.
All participants are required to wear the following minimum PPE to enter our facilities:
- Fully enclosed shoes (steel-capped boots preferred)
- Long-sleeve shirt with high visibility
- Long work pants
Additional PPE may be required depending on the course requirements.
Upon successful completion of this course, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit of competency will be issued:
