The MEM40119 Certificate IV in Engineering qualification is intended for the role of a higher engineering tradesperson within metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries. The qualification is specifically developed for those who are already a tradesperson with access to structured on and off-the-job training, or an apprentice under a formal training contract.
The qualification provides the skills and knowledge to:
- Understand and implement quality control techniques
- Exercise good interpersonal and communications skills
- Work from complex instructions and procedures
- Exercise discretion within the scope of responsibility
- Provide trade guidance and assistance as part of a work team
- Perform non-trade tasks which are incidental or peripheral to the primary tasks
- Inspect products and/or materials for conformity with established operational standards
- Assist in the provision of training in conjunction with supervisors and trainers
Training and assessment in this qualification require access to facilities and equipment in a relevant work environment. Participants are therefore required to be currently employed in such an environment, with access available for training and assessment to be conducted at the workplace.

Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this qualification, but an advanced English language, literacy and numeracy skill level is recommended. Participants will undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) assessment prior to enrolment to identify any educational support needs.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL may be available for participants with previous industry experience.
To be awarded the MEM40119 Certificate IV in Engineering qualification, participants must achieve competency to the value of one hundred and thirty-two (132) points, consisting of:
- Core units totalling thirty-three (33) points, and
- Elective units to bring the total value to one hundred and thirty-two (132) points.
