This electrofusion course includes the theoretical and practical components to meet the skills and knowledge required to undertake polyethylene welding (also known as poly welding) using electrofusion welding equipment.
Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:
- Identifying materials being used in the installation as compatible for welding using electrofusion welding methods
- Calculating appropriate welding parameters to be used
- Maintaining and calibrating welding equipment
- Performing electrofusion welding
- Assessing the quality of welded joints made
Training and assessment is conducted at Site Skills Training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.

This course is suitable for those who are required to use an electrofusion welder to form electrofusion welds on polyethylene (PE) pipes and fittings. Participants may be involved in the installation and maintenance of pipelines transmitting gas and liquids, as well as those working in the mining sector.
A basic to moderate English language, literacy and numeracy skill level is required.
All participants are required to wear the following minimum PPE to enter our facilities:
- Fully enclosed shoes (steel-capped boots preferred)
- Long-sleeve shirt with high visibility
- Long work pants
Additional PPE may be required depending on the course requirements.
Upon successful completion of this course, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit of competency will be issued:
