Step 1: Select a location

The Asbestos Awareness Training course provides participants with an understanding of the risks involved when working and dealing with asbestos.

Asbestos was a common material used in homes built or renovated before 1987. At least 1 in 3 Australian homes contained asbestos including brick, weatherboard, fibro and clad homes. With asbestos deemed a hazardous material, it is important that awareness of what asbestos looks like and where it was used is communicated effectively. There is no safe level of exposure to asbestos fibres and if disturbed can release dangerous fine particles of dust containing asbestos fibres.

Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:

  • Hazards and risks associated with asbestos fibres
  • Identify asbestos containing material (ACM)
  • Appropriate risk control measures include PPE
  • Management and disposal of ACM

This non-accredited course is delivered online through Site Skills Training’s learner portal.

This course has no formal pre-requisites. It is aimed at handypersons, home renovators and others who may in the course of their daily activities, have the potential to be exposed to asbestos. It is not suitable for those requiring a nationally recognised training or licensed outcome.

A basic to moderate English language, literacy and numeracy skill level is recommended. It is recommended that participants have access to a computer with up-to-date software and a reliable internet connection.

Upon successful completion of this course, a Certificate of Attendance will be issued.

The trainers at site skills were very knowledgeable and worked with the guys that were finding it hard. We had Kurt and he was very hands on and took his time to explain and go through parts that seem difficult at first but got easier as we kept doing the revision. Top notch.
