This Chainsaw Operations Level 2 course includes the theoretical and practical components to meet the skills and knowledge required to assess and fell basic trees manually using a chainsaw, and to complete routine operator chainsaw maintenance. This course also covers the skills and knowledge required to use fuel or battery-powered pole saw to trim tree branches within the safe height and angle limits.
Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:
· Prepare for trimming and felling
· Assess site conditions and surroundings
· Assess tree and plan trimming and felling
· Apply tree felling techniques
· Trim trees using a pole saw
· Maintain chainsaw and cutting attachments
· Conduct operator maintenance
Training and assessment are conducted at Site Skills Training and partnering industry facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.

This course is suitable for those who are required to use a chainsaw or pole saw to safely trim, cut and fell trees at a basic level. Participants may be already working in the arboriculture, forestry, agriculture, conservation and land management or primary industries, or are interested in entering these industries.
A basic to moderate English language, literacy and numeracy skill level is required.
All participants are required to wear the following minimum PPE to enter our facilities:
· Fully enclosed shoes (steel-capped boots preferred)
· Long-sleeve shirt with high visibility
· Long work pants
Additional PPE may be required depending on the course requirements.
Upon successful completion of this course, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency will be issued:
