JOBS AND SKILLS WA

Under the Jobs and Skills WA Program, Site Skills & Competency Training are able to provide subsidised training to eligible students to complete their selected qualification under various funding initiatives:

Lower Fees, Local Skills

Lower fees, local skills aim to stimulate training in job growth areas and support industry sectors that are important to the diversification of the WA economy. Through Jobs and Skills WA, we are helping to build a skilled workforce for WA’s future growth and prosperity.

Priority Industry Qualifications

Priority industry qualifications equip students to take up jobs in skilled occupations that are in high demand across Western Australia. The Priority industry qualifications list (PIQL) is updated each year to reflect changes in the WA economy.

Trainees

Traineeships are an excellent way to combine training with work, enabling you to have a job while you complete training towards a nationally recognised qualification. All traineeships for new entrants in priority industry areas are subsidised through Jobs and Skills WA.

ELIGIBILITY FOR FUNDED TRAINING:

You are eligible for a subsidised training place if you have left school, hold a current, your primary place of residence is in Western Australia, and you are:

  • an Australian citizen#; or
  • a permanent visa holder, or holder of visa subclass 309, 820 or 826; or
  • a dependent or spouse of the primary holder of a visa subclass 457; or
  • a Bridging Visa E holder (subclasses 050 and 051), AND you have made a valid application for a visa of subclass 785 or 790.

#New Zealand Citizens are not eligible unless evidence of Australian permanent residency can be provided (the standard Special Category Visa is a temporary Visa only).

ELIGIBILITY FOR CONCESSION:

Eligibility for the concession rate on course fees is determined at the time of enrolment. Participants in the following circumstances are entitled to the concession rate:

  • Persons and dependants of persons holding a Pensioner Concession Card, Repatriation Health Benefits Card or a Health Care Card; OR
  • Persons and dependants of persons in receipt of AUSTUDY, ABSTUDY or Youth Allowance; OR
  • Persons and dependants of persons who are in receipt of services from the Commonwealth under the Jobactive, Online Employment Services or ParentsNext programs.

For the Jobactive, Online Employment Services, or the ParentsNext program, appropriate evidence of a participant’s eligibility for a concession is a letter from the Commonwealth services provider confirming their participation in the program.

If the concession is valid for the full enrolment period, then all eligible units that a participant enrols in within that period will attract the concession rate. If the concession is valid for part of the enrolment period, then only eligible units the participant enrols in on or after the start date and prior to the expiry of the concession will attract the concession rate.
